Abiding Savior Academy Statement of Faith

Abiding Savior Academy is a classical Christian school. As a supported ministry of Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church, the Abiding Savior Academy Board of Directors adopts the Statement of Faith below. All Academy employees affirm and fully support all elements of the Statement of Faith. Families that join the Academy community acknowledge that these beliefs underly everything taught and practiced at the Academy and that these beliefs are explicitly taught at the Academy.

  • We believe that the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God, true, authoritative, and sufficient. (Psalm 19:7-11; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

  • We believe that there is only one God. The Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. There are not three Gods but One Triune God. (Genesis 1:26; Deuteronomy 6:4; Psalm 45:6-7; Psalm 110:1; Isaiah 45:5-6; Isaiah 46:9-10; Matthew 3:13-17; Matthew 28:17-20; John 17:3; 1 Corinthians 8:4-6; 1 Corinthians 12:14-6; 1 Timothy 2:5)

  • We believe that every human being is by nature and action a sinner. The just and deserved penalty for sin is death, both physical and spiritual. (Genesis 2:15-17; Genesis 3:19; Genesis 6:5; Psalm 51:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Romans 3:23; Romans 5:8, 12-21; Romans 6:23; Romans 7:18; Ephesians 2:1-3; James 1:14-15)

  • We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, was born of a virgin and is both fully God and fully human. He died as my substitute to pay the penalty for my sin, and He physically rose from the dead to conquer death on my behalf. He physically ascended into heaven and will one day physically return. (Matthew 1:20; Matthew 28:1-20; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 2:52; Luke 24:1-53; John 1:1-4, 20-21, 25, 29; John 10:1-18; John 14:3; Acts 1:11; Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, 12-34; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 1:4; Colossians 1:15-20; 1 Thessalonians 4:16; Hebrews 1:1-3; Hebrews 9:28; 1 Peter 3:18; 1 John 3:2; Revelation 1:7)

  • We believe that when Christ returns there will be a physical resurrection of the dead. Only by grace, through faith, in Christ Jesus, are we reconciled to God and forgiven of our sins. Those who trust in Jesus Christ alone will be raised to eternal reward. Those who have not trusted in Jesus Christ will be raised to eternal punishment. (Matthew 25:31-46; John 3:18; John 5:28-29; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Acts 24:15; Romans 3:21-26; 1 Timothy 2:5-6)

  • We believe that those in Christ Jesus are in-dwelt by the Holy Spirit who calls, convicts, guides, and comforts them. (John 14:7-11, 17, 26; John 16:8; Acts 1:8; I Corinthians 3:16; I Corinthians 6:19-20; I Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:13; Ephesians 4:30; Ephesians 5:18; Titus 3:5)

  • We believe that those in Christ Jesus are called to live holy and blameless lives, being set apart from the world. (Romans 6 and 12)

  • We believe that those in Christ Jesus are called and empowered to bear witness to the death and resurrection of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins to all the world. (Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:18-20)

  • We believe that in order to offer and convey to men the merits which Christ has secured for the world by His death on the cross, God employs certain external, visible means through which the Holy Spirit works and preserves faith and thus accomplishes the sinner’s salvation and sanctification. These means include the Word of God, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper. (Acts 2:37-41; Romans 5:18; Romans 6:1-11; 1 Corinthians 11:1-34; 2 Corinthians 5:21)

  • We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. (Psalm 139:13-16)

  • We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person. (Genesis 1:26-27)

  • We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (Genesis 2:18-25; 1 Corinthians 6:18; 1 Corinthians 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4)

  • We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God. (Matthew 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.)

  • We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture. (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31)

The above is what members of the Academy community agree to believe together. There are many differences of theology and practice among sincere, evangelical, confessing Christians. In these cases, community members should strive to practice the maxim, “In necessary things, unity; in doubtful things, liberty; in all things, charity.” Should questions arise in regard to the interpretation of the Statement of Faith, the Academy Administration and Board of Directors (in partnership with the Abiding Savior Free Lutheran Church Pastors and Board of Deacons, as needed) are the final interpretive authority in regard to this Statement of Faith.
